Bruce Katz
Bruce F. Katz is the founder and president of San Francisco-based Retail Focus, a retail and shopping center advisory firm. Mr. Katz brings a unique combination of expertise from over twenty-five years experience in both the retail and shopping center industries. He has held executive positions at major department and specialty stores, as well as at The Taubman Company, a leading shopping center development and management firm.
During his 12-year tenure at Taubman, he held the positions of Senior Retail Analyst and Director of Retail Services. With the objective of increasing sales in each of the company's regional retail properties, he provided market analysis and developed tenant mix strategies used successfully in the positioning and marketing of both new and existing centers. He also consulted individually with key retail tenants on merchandising initiatives for capitalizing on market opportunities and improving sales productivity.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Katz was a buyer and product developer at Bloomingdale's, I. Magnin and The Sharper Image. During his retail career, he traveled both nationally and internationally to buy and also develop proprietary product in the areas of women's and men's fashion apparel, personal accessories and furniture. As senior buyer with chain-wide responsibilities, he was accountable for profitably managing these departments in diverse markets throughout the country.
The combination of merchandising expertise and real estate experience gives Mr. Katz a unique perspective in the retail real estate industry. Through Retail Focus, he continues to bring his insightful analysis, hands-on knowledge of the industry and innovative market strategies to advise in feasibility planning, repositioning, tenanting, management, expansion, and investment for retailers and shopping centers nationwide.
Mr. Katz is a graduate of New York University. He has taught Shopping Center Management at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Jeff GreenJeff Green is the owner and proprietor of Jeff Green Partners, a newly formed commercial feasibility consultancy. Previously, Mr. Green was President of Market Insite Group a firm which specialized in developing web based tools to assist retailers and property owners in site and tenant selection. In addition, Mr. Green headed the professional services division for Market Insite Group providing feasibility studies for property owners and national expansion plans and sales forecasts for a wide range of national and regional retailers. Jeff has extensive consulting experience on a wide range of research projects ranging from feasibility studies for development projects across the US and internationally to expansion plans and sales projections for specific retailers.
Prior to Market Insite Group, Mr. Green was President and Owner of The Green Group, which merged with Market Insite Group in 2001. The Green Group had a 35-year history of providing consulting services to retail property owners, regional and national retail chains, financial institutions and municipalities. The firm was a pioneer in the development of retail site selection theory and techniques.
Mr. Green has been a frequent speaker at national and international conferences sponsored by the site selection and shopping center industries. For many years Jeff was an instructor teaching the latest market research techniques for retailers and shopping center owners and developers at the International Council of Shopping Center's School of Professional Development. He also spoke at many regional and national ICSC conventions and meetings on the latest trends in retail and shopping center formats.
Jeff has spoken to other industry organizations such as the Food Marketing Institute and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) on a wide variety of subjects in his 22 years in the industry.
Mr. Green is a graduate of Michigan State University.
Stuart ZallStuart F. Zall, President, The Zall Company, LLC, represents 18 years experience in the real estate leasing business including six years with The Taubman Company, an internationally known $5 billion real estate development and management organization.
Before founding The Zall Company, LLC, Mr. Zall formed and strengthened relationships with retail clients as Vice President and Director of Lord Associates, a nationwide retail and outlet real estate leasing, consulting and brokerage firm. In November 1999, when Lord Associates was acquired by The Taubman Company, Mr. Zall continued his work as Director of Value Retail Leasing.
Mr. Zall's achievements with Lord Associates comprise extensive projects including the Great Mall of the Bay Area, a former Ford assembly plant converted into a 1.5 million-square-foot value mega mall and Great Lakes Crossing, a 1.2 million-square-foot value mega mall in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He also headed the leasing of Mainstreet, Florida, a 1-million-square-foot entertainment center in Jacksonville, Florida.
By adding upscale and entertainment-oriented retailers to both Lord Associates and Taubman properties, Mr. Zall improved the merchandising mix and increased the properties' customer counts, positively impacting the sales per square foot. His experience and relationships allow him to accelerate leases with such prestigious clients as DKNY, Charlotte Russe, Vans Skate Park, Perry Ellis, Pacific Sunware, Bebe, Chico's, Fresh Choice, Johnny Rockets, BCBG, the Alcatraz Brew Pub Company, Guess Jeans, St. John Knits, The Limited, Hot Topic and Forever 21.
Mr. Zall earned his B.S. in accounting from the University of Denver. His professional licenses include:
